How verification works
What a safety label on Blocktopia actually means today — and what's coming.
Why our labels mean something
Most server lists let anyone say anything, then sell the top spots to the highest bidder. We don't.
Reviews come from real players — a review only counts if the account behind it has verifiable playtime on that server.
Rankings come from activity— we measure players online, hours logged, achievements earned, and rank on that; you can't buy your way up.
Safety is rated independently— each server gets a safety assessment owners can't pay to inflate.
Three tiers, stated plainly
Vote-farm server lists ask you to trust a number. We'd rather show you exactly where a safety claim comes from. There are three tiers — only the first is live today, and we label everything honestly.
Self-declared
Live nowThe server owner ticks a safety checklist. We show it clearly as their claim, with their name attached. Players with verified playtime on that server can back it up or call it out in reviews.
What it covers: what the owner says their server does. What it does not: we have not independently checked it yet.
Safety-reviewed
ComingA Blocktopia admin checks the owner's claims against the server and awards a dated badge that records when the review happened.
What it covers: that a human checked the declared claims on a given date. What it does not: it is a point-in-time review, not a permanent guarantee of every moment of play afterwards.
Plugin-attested
ComingThe open-source Blocktopia plugin reports machine-verifiable signals — for example that no gambling or loot-box plugins are loaded, or that chat filtering is active. The plugin source will be on Modrinth, what it captures is fully disclosed, and attestation is opt-in.
What it covers: facts a machine can prove about the server, like which plugins are loaded. What it does not: it cannot prove that a Discord is well-moderated or that every player behaves — software can only attest to what software can see.
